Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBOT) and Skin Grafts

Understanding Skin Grafts

Skin grafts are commonly used following burns, traumatic injuries, chronic wounds, or surgical reconstruction. The healing process can be complex and often requires ongoing medical care, monitoring, and recovery support.

Alongside clinical management, some individuals explore wellbeing-focused approaches to support comfort, recovery routines, and overall resilience during the post-surgical healing period.

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy involves breathing high-concentration oxygen inside a pressurised chamber. Under increased atmospheric pressure, oxygen dissolves more efficiently into the bloodstream and body fluids, increasing overall systemic oxygen availability.

At OxyHealthCare®, HBOT sessions are provided as non-medical wellbeing sessions. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, or replace surgical or medical management of skin grafts.

Why Some People Explore HBOT Following Skin Grafting

Scientific research continues to explore the role of oxygen availability in tissue recovery and wound environments. Some individuals choose to explore HBOT alongside their standard medical care because:

  • Oxygen plays a key role in normal tissue metabolism
  • Reduced oxygen availability is associated with delayed wound recovery
  • Research has explored how oxygen exposure may interact with healing environments
  • HBOT is sometimes included in wider personal wellbeing and recovery routines

Important:
HBOT at OxyHealthCare® is not a surgical treatment and must not replace medical follow-up, wound care, or specialist advice.

Research & Further Reading (Informational Only)

HBOT has been studied in relation to wound environments and graft viability. The following study is provided for educational purposes only:

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Skin Graft Outcomes
A study published on PubMed Central (PMC) examined oxygen exposure and skin graft outcomes under controlled conditions, exploring oxygenation, vascular response, and tissue recovery mechanisms.
