Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBOT) and Hearing Loss

Understanding Hearing Loss

Hearing loss can occur for a variety of reasons, including age-related changes, noise exposure, infections, or sudden sensorineural events. The impact on daily life can vary widely between individuals, and diagnosis and management are typically overseen by audiologists, ENT specialists, or other healthcare professionals.

Alongside conventional medical care, some individuals explore non-medical wellbeing approaches as part of their broader personal health routines.

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy involves breathing high-concentration oxygen inside a pressurised chamber. Under increased atmospheric pressure, oxygen dissolves more readily into the bloodstream and body fluids, increasing overall oxygen availability throughout the body.

At OxyHealthCare®, HBOT is provided solely as a non-medical wellbeing service. It is not offered as a medical treatment for hearing loss and does not replace audiological assessment, ENT care, or prescribed medical treatment.

Why Some People Explore HBOT in the Context of Hearing Health

Scientific research continues to explore oxygen exposure, circulation, and inner-ear physiology in a range of experimental and clinical research settings.

Some individuals choose to explore HBOT as part of their personal wellbeing routines because:

  • Oxygen plays a role in normal cellular metabolism
  • Pressurised oxygen increases systemic oxygen availability
  • Sessions are non-invasive and passive
  • HBOT can be explored alongside existing medical care

Important:
HBOT at OxyHealthCare® does not diagnose, treat, cure, or manage hearing loss or auditory disorders. Individual experiences vary.

Research & Further Reading

Independent Research – Informational Context Only

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been explored in independent academic research relating to hearing loss and auditory physiology.

The studies below are third-party publications provided for general educational purposes only. OxyHealthCare® did not conduct, sponsor, or control these studies, and inclusion does not imply clinical application within our wellbeing services.

Important Clarification

These studies do not establish HBOT as a treatment for hearing loss and should not be interpreted as evidence of hearing restoration, recovery, or prevention of deterioration.

What a Session at OxyHealthCare® Involves

  • Relaxing in a comfortable hyperbaric chamber
  • Breathing high-concentration oxygen
  • Typical pressure range: 1.5–2.0 ATA
  • Calm, monitored, professional environment

Clients remain fully clothed and may rest, listen to music, or relax during the session.

Safety & Suitability

HBOT is not suitable for everyone.

HBOT is contraindicated for:

  • Untreated pneumothorax (collapsed lung)

Caution may be required for individuals with ear, sinus, or respiratory conditions.

Anyone with hearing loss or ear-related conditions should consult their GP, audiologist, or ENT specialist before booking.
