Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBOT) and Cancer

Understanding Cancer

Cancer refers to a group of conditions involving abnormal cell growth that may affect different organs and systems within the body. Diagnosis, treatment, and management of cancer are overseen by qualified healthcare professionals and may involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, or other clinical interventions.

Alongside conventional medical care, some individuals explore non-medical wellbeing approaches to support comfort, routine, and overall quality of life during or after cancer treatment.

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy involves breathing high-concentration oxygen inside a pressurised chamber. Under increased atmospheric pressure, oxygen dissolves more efficiently into the bloodstream and body fluids, increasing overall oxygen availability throughout the body.

At OxyHealthCare®, HBOT is provided solely as a non-medical wellbeing service and is not offered as a medical, therapeutic, or clinical cancer treatment.

Why Some People Explore HBOT in the Context of Cancer

There is ongoing scientific interest in how oxygen availability and pressurised environments interact with biological processes relevant to recovery and wellbeing.

Some individuals choose to explore HBOT alongside their existing medical care because:

  • Oxygen is essential for normal cellular function
  • Pressurised oxygen increases the amount of dissolved oxygen available in the body
  • Sessions are calm, passive, and non-invasive
  • HBOT can be explored without replacing standard oncology care

Important:
HBOT at OxyHealthCare® does not diagnose, treat, cure, or manage cancer, and does not replace chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, or any other medical treatment. Individual experiences vary.

Research & Further Reading

Independent Research – Informational Context Only

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been examined in a range of independent academic studies exploring oxygen exposure, hypoxia, and biological mechanisms relevant to oncology research.

The studies listed below are third-party publications and are provided for general informational purposes only. OxyHealthCare® did not conduct, sponsor, or control these studies, and inclusion does not imply clinical endorsement or application within our wellbeing services.

What a Session at OxyHealthCare® Involves

  • Relaxing in a comfortable hyperbaric chamber
  • Breathing high-concentration oxygen
  • Typical pressure range: 1.5–2.0 ATA
  • Calm, monitored, professional environment
  • Sessions typically last around 60 minutes

Clients remain fully clothed and may relax, listen to music, or rest during the session.

Safety & Suitability

HBOT is not suitable for everyone.

HBOT is contraindicated for:

  • Untreated pneumothorax (collapsed lung)

Caution may be required for individuals with certain respiratory, ear, or sinus conditions.

If you have a cancer diagnosis or are undergoing cancer treatment, consult your GP or oncology team before booking any wellbeing sessions.

OxyHealthCare® does not provide medical clearance, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations.

Why Choose OxyHealthCare®?

  • Experienced, trained staff delivering wellbeing-focused sessions
  • Multiple clinic locations across the UK
